Monday, 1/28/13
Objectives:
  • Assess current/background knowledge of U5P3 words.
  • Identify examples and use of figurative language, slang and allusions
Procedures:
  1. Copy HW
  2. What are today's objective's?
  3. U5P3 pretest & correct answers
  4. Review "hook", "dialect" (and slang), and "allusion"
    • restate meaning in own words as review.
    • Think of examples
  5. Finish Chapter 1 and discuss
    • Discuss meaning of each and create examples, as review
HW:
    • Reading Check Questions 1, 2, 3 and Literary Focus Questions 2, 3 and find 2 examples for #5 and #6.
    • WW pgs 106-109 due Wednesday; pgs 110-110 due Thursday; Prepare for WW U5P3 posttest on Friday.


Tuesday, 1/29/13
Objectives:
  • organize writing by restating the question and providing proof from the book as support for response.
Procedures:
  1. Copy HW
  2. What are today's objectives?
  3. Copy ROQ question from the board. Respond to it by Restating the Questionin a topic sentence. Your response should be 4 sentences:
    • ROQ #1: On the back of the book, Kenny described Byron as a "juvenile delinquent." Provide at least two examples to prove/support this statement.--What has Byron done so far in the novel to show his "delinquent" side?
  4. Discuss Questions from Chapter 1 (HW): Comprehension Check #1,2,3 and Literary Focus #2 and 2 examples for #5 and #6.
  5. Assign reading parts and read Chapter 2 in class.
HW:
  • Finish reading Chapter 2 if not finished in class.
  • Complete ROQ due tomorrow
  • Word Wisdom pgs 106-109 due tomorrow; pgs 110-111 due Thursday; prepare for U5P3 posttest Friday

Wednesday, 1/30/13
Objective:
  • check current understanding of U5P3 word wisdom words and context clues
Procedure:
  1. Copy HW into agenda
  2. What are today's objectives?
  3. Collect ROQ responses.
  4. Check WW pages for completion.--allow a student leader to lead corrections with the class.
  5. Discuss reactions from Chapter 2-- highlights of plot, characterization, mark figurative language and literary terms that were evident in the reading
  6. Begin reading Chapter 3 in class & update/finish study guide.
HW:
  • WW pages 110-111 due tomorrow; prepare for Friday's posttest
  • Finish reading Chapter 3 if not finished in class.

Thursday, 1/31/13 Mrs. Tolin will be absent throughout the day to attend Professional Meetings
Objectives:
  • check current understanding of U5P3 words
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What are today's objectives?
  • Check WW pgs 110-110 with student leader--correct answers.
  • Begin 2nd Practice OAA text excerpts--read, highlight and find evidence in the passage before answering each question.
  • With any extra class time: begin HW
Homework:
  • Complete Chapter 1-3 Study Guide in prep for tomorrow's open notes OR open book "quiz" (Mrs. Tolin will announce before class which one you may use, so be prepared!)
  • Prepare for tomorrow's U5P3 Word Wisdom quiz

Objectives:
  • demonstrate mastery of U5P3 words
  • display current knowledge and mastered knowledge of Chapters 1-3 in Watsons, including use of figurative language, dialect, characerization and setting, as discussed in class.
Procedures:
  • Copy HW into agenda
  • What are today's objectives?
  • Take U5P3 word wisdom quiz---Mrs. Tolin will walk around to check for stamps received yesterday from substitute/student leader in order to record grades for pgs 106-111
  • Take Chapter 1-3 open notes OR open book "quiz"--discuss answers.
  • Finish Practice OAA, if needed and/or Read Chapter 4 independently.
Homework:
  • Finish reading Chapter 4 independently before Monday.
